Type-Image Integration
Created using Adobe Illustrator
The purpose of this project was to strengthen my skills in combining type with other elements such as images. The composition as a whole should be seamless- in other words, the type should not simply be placed over the image, but rather it should be integrated into the image, enhancing any movement/concepts that already happen to exist. For the first concept, I chose the word “focus” and tried to convey the meaning of the word through a camera lens that was focusing on an image. To do so, I used gaussian blur as well as depth and perspective when sizing and placing the letters. The lens of the camera replaces the letter “o”, making the design readable, understandable, and cohesive. The second word was “hurdle”, so the letters were aptly distorted, angled, and placed to make it seem as though they were jumping over the hurdles in the image. The contrast in size between individual letters also helped create the illusion of the word running towards the viewer. This made the composition as a whole dynamic.
